Her Emmynency (Successful Appeal), last seen upsetting Keeneland's GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup S. at 19-1 Oct. 10, makes her 4-year-old debut and first start for Kristin Mulhall in Santa Anita's GII Buena Vista S. Saturday. Previously trained by Mike Stidham, the bay was second in the 2014 GI Del Mar Debutante sprinting on synthetic before annexing the course-and-distance Surfer Girl S. that October. Sidelined following a bout of colic that nearly took her life, the Ike and Dawn Thrash colorbearer made a successful return in an Arlington optional claimer last June, and was sixth in the GII San Clemente H. back on the grass at Del Mar in July before finishing a close second in the GI Del Mar Oaks a month later.
She survived a contentious stewards inquiry after the QE II, as runner-up Miss Temple City (Temple City) was forced to take up when Her Emmynency came in in upper stretch, and was subsequently transferred to Mulhall along with the rest of the Thrash runners.
Stormy Lucy (Stormy Atlantic) blew up the tote at 65-1 in Del Mar's GI Matriarch S. Nov. 29, but fell a neck short in the local GIII Robert J. Frankel S.–a nose ahead of Glory (Tapit)–two days after Christmas. The 7-year-old was beaten another nose by Keri Belle (Empire Maker) in the GIII Megahertz S. here Jan. 18. Theatre Star (War Front) was a neck back in third, while Glory faded to seventh after setting the pace.
Dual Grade II winner Prize Exhibit (GB) (Showcasing {GB}), off the board in both the QE II and Matriarch, cut back to annex the GII Monrovia S. down the hill here Jan. 3. She was seventh trying dirt last time in the seven-panel GII Santa Monica S. 20 days later.
