Hesmonds Buys Wootton Bassett Share

Nurlan Bizkov's Hesmonds Stud has bought the last share in leading second-season sire Wootton Bassett (GB) for €120,000 through Arqana Online. Hesmonds, which is home to around 25 broodmares and which also bought the first share in Siyouni (Fr) offered on Arqana Online, was one of 17 entities from France and abroad that registered for the sale.

Wootton Bassett, Europe's current leading second-season sire, is responsible for this year's triple Group 1-winning Almanzor (Fr) and the Group 2-placed Do Re Mi Fa Sol (Fr) from his first crop of 17 foals. He stands at Haras d'Etreham.

Hesmonds Stud manager Tony Fry said, “We are very pleased to have bought into this exciting stallion. Even before we found out about the online sale, we had a mare down to him, a maiden by Sea The Stars out of a Storm Cat mare. Now we'll just have to look for a second one. We purchased a share in Siyouni via Arqana Online, which we thought offered tremendous value. This is also a very fair price considering that Wootton Bassett will stand for at least €20,000 next year and the share includes two nominations. We are always looking to be involved with this sort of horse. I would like to thank Nicolas de Chambure at Etreham and Arqana for this opportunity.”
