Holding Court

Were it not for a blip in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains, Godolphin's Inns of Court (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) would be taking an unbeaten record into Saturday's G3 Prix de la Porte Maillot at Deauville and he will be a warm order to continue a golden spell for the operation. Whether the saddle slip he encountered compromised his chances when sixth in that May 14 Deauville Classic is unknown, but he has since captured the seven-furlong G3 Prix du Palais-Royal at Maisons-Laffitte on June 3 and if he remains progressive should defy a penalty. “Inns of Court has to carry a penalty for his win at Maisons-Laffitte, but he is a horse on the upgrade and this distance suits him well,” Godolphin's Lisa-Jane Graffard commented. “He is in very good form and hopefully he can run another good race. This will hopefully tell us where his programme lies for the rest of the year.” The Wertheimers' African Ride (GB) (Candy Ride {Arg}) was three lengths adrift of Inns of Court when seventh in the Poulains last time, having finished third behind that rival's stablemate Al Wukair (Ire) (Dream Ahead) in the G3 Prix Djebel at this trip at Maisons-Laffitte on Apr. 10.
