Racehorse Owners Association UK President Rachel Hood and her husband, trainer John Gosden have joined the Water Hay Oats Alliance in support of federal legislation prohibiting the use of raceday medications in America. The WHOA released the following statement from Hood and Gosden:
“We are deeply concerned about the pervasive medication of horses in American racing. Horses racing with drugs administered shortly before and on the day of racing is no longer acceptable. Not only does it bring into question the validity of a horse's performance, but it also degrades the breed. International standards demand Thoroughbred racehorses should race on their merits and drug free. American racing is now isolated on the world stage and until it reforms will continue to be questioned and reputationally damaged.”
