Horse Tests Positive for EHV-1 at Laurel; Restrictions Put in Place

A horse who shipped in to Laurel Park has tested positive for the EHV-1 virus, prompting officials to implement restrictions on hirses shipping in and out of the Maryland oval. The horse in questions has been removed from the grounds, and the barn he was stabled in has been placed under quarantine. He will be tested again on Tuesday–if the test comes back negative for EHV-1, all restrictions will be immediately lifted. If he tests positive, restrictions will remain in place until Jan. 30. “We're asking horsemen in other states and at training centers to check their policies before entering,” Laurel president and GM Sal Sinatra said.
