Following an impressive handicap success at the Gold Coast on Saturday, Houtzen (Aus) (I Am Invincibe {Aus}) now heads the market for the A$2M Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast next Saturday. The filly is currently unbeaten in two starts for trainer Toby Edmonds and after preserving her perfect record in stylish fashion on Saturday with an eased down four and a half length victory over Make My Own Luck (Aus) (Bradbury's Luck {Aus}) Edmonds commented, “We will make certain she eats up and that everything is right. But if that is ok she will give us a great chance in the Classic. She had to stand in the barriers a while after another runner played up but she is a professional filly.”
Houtzen, a A$105,000 yearling at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale when consigned by Yarraman Park Stud replaced another Yarraman Park graduate From Within (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) as favourite for next weekend's contest. That Chris Waller trained 'TDN Rising Star' was also reported on course for the race having pleased connections in a piece of work. Speaking to Racing.com, Waller's foreman Charlie Duckworth said, “From Within galloped over 800 metres and settled nicely in behind a stablemate. She was asked to improve from the 400-metre mark and quickened stylishly, pleasing rider Hugh Bowman. She may have another gallop on Tuesday if required and a final decision will be made on Tuesday morning but at this stage we are confident that she will race in the Magic Millions.” Duckworth also gave an update on stable-star Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) who was also put through her paces at Rosehill on Saturday under Ben Cadden. “She looks very well ahead of her first trial which is planned for January 17 at Rosehill,” sad Duckworth. Winx is due to make her reappearance in the G2 Apollo S. at Randwick Feb. 11.
