Robert LaPenta's Ice Box (Pulpit), who came flying late to grab second in last Saturday's GI Kentucky Derby, will pass the GI Preakness S. May 15 in favor of a run in the GI Belmont S. June 5. “After talking to Mr. [Bob] LaPenta, we concurred that Ice Box's race was tremendous, but we also knew it was a tough race,” trainer Nick Zito said in a release. “We feel that we are better-suited to wait and pass the Preakness and possibly go on to the Belmont and, hopefully, things work out.” Zito added that a determination on the Preakness status of his other Derby runner Jackson Bend (Hear No Evil) would be made early next week.
