FIRNAS (GB) (c, 3, Dubawi {Ire}–Crystal Music {G1SW-Eng & G1SP-Ire, $367,336}, by Nureyev) was a 1.6million TATOCT yearling purchase by John Ferguson who said at the time, “We are trying to find the gold mine, the horse who will become a dual-hemisphere stallion.” Finishing fifth on his debut behind the subsequent listed winner Tashweeq (Ire) (Big Bad Bob {Ire}) over seven furlongs at Newmarket in August, the bay whose dam was the 2000 G1 Fillies Mile winner before finishing runner-up in the G1 Coronation S. and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas was settled last of the main group early by William Buick. Making smooth progress down the outside to enter contention without being asked a serious question, the 9-2 shot gained the lead before the two-furlong pole and was coaxed down the “dip” and on to an impressive five-length success from Lexington Law (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) without need for the whip. Crystal Music is a half-sister to the GSW Dubai Success (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and Michael Poland's pair of classy fillies State Crystal (Ire) (High Estate {Ire}) and Solar Crystal (Ire) (Alzao), as well as the G1 Irish Derby third Tchaikovsky (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and the dam of the GII Dahlia H. winner Grande Melody (Ire) (Grand Lodge). Her extended family features Jim Joel's champion Royal Palace (GB) and, more recently, the GII Sunset Breeders' Cup H. winner Always First (GB) (Barathea {Ire}). Crystal Music s21 has also produced a smart sprinting filly in Crystany (Ire) (Green Desert) and also Crystal Moment (Distorted Humor), MSP-US, $172,996 and Treasury Devil (Bernardini), SP-Eng, $182,374. Another of her progeny, the unraced Crystal Maze (GB) (Gone West), is the dam of the G2 Prix Greffulhe winner and G1 Grand Prix de Paris third Ocovango (GB) (Monsun {Ger}). After Firnas, she has a 2-year-old full-brother to the winner named High End (GB) before being unfortunately barren to Frankel (GB). Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $7,944.
