Indian Charlie Colt for Allard
Bloodstock agent Steve Shahinian, bidding on behalf of Canadian real estate developer Cam Allard, saw off Wounded Warrior Stable’s Chip McEwan, sitting alongside Danzel Brendemuehl, to secure a son of Indian Charlie for $400,000 during Wednesday’s third session of the OBS sale.
“He was a very efficient mover, with a good mind,” Shahinian, who picked GI Kentucky Derby contender Cairo Prince (Pioneerof the Nile) out of the 2012 Keeneland September sale, said of Wednesday’s acquisition. “He was the best of the bunch.”
Hip 844, consigned by de Meric Sales, is out of Viva La Viva (Crafty Prospector) and is a half-brother to stakes winner Ready to Live (More Than Ready) and to the dam of graded stakes winner Itsmyluckyday (Lawyer Ron). He worked a quarter last week in :21 3/5.
Shahinian was making his first purchase on behalf of Allard. “It’s new for me, but I’m very happy to be there,” he smiled.
Allard campaigned Canadian champion A Fleets Dancer (Afleet), as well as graded stakes placed Saarlight (Saarland).
The horse was just exceptional,” remarked Tristan de Meric, who purchased the colt for $125,000 at Keeneland January in 2013. “He has all the pedigree you could ever want and I didn’t think there was any shot I’d buy him. He was an outstanding horse then and has been ever since. He never missed a day of training, he never wore a bandage, he’s been perfect. He’s never had a bad day. That horse is pure class.”
