The 2017 sales season will be the last for Inglis at its Newmarket complex in Sydney, with the company's Riverside Stables complex adjacent to Warwick Farm Racecourse set to be completed in December. The last sale at Newmarket will be the Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale Apr. 10 to 12, and the first sale at Riverside will be next year's Classic Yearling Sale in early February.
“After years of planning, the time has come to relocate our Sydney business to its new home, a truly world-class sales and events facility at Warwick Farm,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said. “The Riverside Stables complex is a massive investment by Inglis, and has been created to service the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry for the next 100 years.”
The Warwick Farm precinct, which is 25 minutes from Sydney International Airport, will include a luxury hotel named William Inglis adjoining the sales arena. The William Inglis will have 144 hotel rooms and a range of hospitality facilities including a paddock to plate-style restaurant, a ringside bar, a lobby café, a microbrewery and entertainment precinct.
The sales arena will be air conditioned and will include ringside dining service for at least 600 customers, eight corporate boxes and additional tiered and casual seating.
The stables will accommodate more than 800 horses with parade space double what is available at Newmarket. That includes The Big Barn, a large barn being constructed for use during the major sales that will double as a venue for weddings and other special occasions.
Inglis will maintain its relationship with its existing partner hotels, including the Crowne Plaza in Coogee and the Intercontinental in Sydney and Double Bay, as well as others nearby the new facility, all of which will be well serviced by shuttle buses and limousines.
“Newmarket has been a wonderful home for our company and I have great respect for the role it has played in the lives of our customers over many generations,” Webster added. “The team here at Inglis look forward to celebrating those memories over the coming months with all of our loyal customers and friends, whilst we also unveil all the wonderful attributes of our new complex.”
“Our final year at Newmarket also coincides with our 150th year of service to the industry,” he continued. “There will be a number of events in the coming months to celebrate all that is old and new, including a farewell party at Newmarket for our customers on the eve of the Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale, and another party for existing and former employees of the company later in the year. I encourage everyone to join in the celebrations and enjoy the remaining three months of sales at Newmarket. If you haven't been to Newmarket for a while, this is the time to return.”
