TENCENDUR (Warrior's Reward), who made waves when finishing second behind Frosted (Tapit) in the 2015 GI TwinSpires.com Wood Memorial S., makes his first appearance in over 13 months and his first try against allowance company in this restricted spot. A maiden winner at second asking in the Aqueduct slop in January 2015, the massive bay colt was well down the field behind American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) in the GI Kentucky Derby last May and has one appearance since, a near-miss second to Mr. Z (Malibu Moon) in the 2015 Ohio Derby. The homebred, the 4-5 morning-line favorite, has trained forwardly for this return and breaks from the rail beneath Jose Ortiz. “He really is a two-turn horse,” said trainer George Weaver. “Running him seven-eighths of a mile would probably be a little more difficult because he doesn't have that early gate speed. We figured the mile and an eighth fit him better. He's a big, rangy colt.” Click here for a Mike Kane story on owner/breeder Philip Birsh. TJCIS PPs
