This installment of “Insights on the American Racing Scene” features a very well-pedigreed group of 2-year-old fillies at Delaware Park.
6th-DEL, $34K, Msw, 2yo, f, 7 1/2fT, 3:45 p.m. ET
This 2-year-old filly turf test came up exceptionally tough, and features the likes of MADAME MILAN (Bernardini), the final foal out of La Ville Rouge (Carson City), best known as the dam of star-crossed 2006 GI Kentucky Derby hero Barbaro (Dynaformer). Conditioner Arnaud Delacour will saddle that runner on behalf of Roy and Gretchen Jackson's Lael Stables, and the Frenchman will also be represented by fellow newcomer Speak for Yourself (Tale of the Cat). Michael Matz, Barbaro's trainer, also has two entrants: Augustin homebred Going Out (Tapit&log=">Tapit), a daughter of 2008 champion grass mare Forever Together (Belong to Me); and Helen Groves homebred Mechuda (Arch), whose stakes-winning dam Rasta Farian (Holy Bull) is a half to Matz-trained GI Diana S. victoress Somali Lemonade (Lemon Drop Kid). The latter hails from the prolific female family of Grade I winner Verrazano (More Than Ready), et al. Mike Stidham and Speedway Stable team up with Moon Dash (Malibu Moon), who's out of SW/MGSP turfer In the Slips (More Than Ready). A $220,000 KEENOV weanling and $47,000 Fasig October yearling, Moon Dash blossomed into a $650,000 OBS April juvenile after a :20 4/5 bullet quarter mile. Graham Motion was the last to train In the Slips, and he's got $320,000 Keeneland September grad Draconic Treasure (Street Cry {Ire}), whose dam is a half to the talented globe-trotting sprinter Rich Tapestry (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}). European MG1SW and champion Refuse to Bend (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) is under her third dam. TJCIS PPs
