Michael Halford will let the dust settle before working on plans for Irishcorrespondent (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) following his fine effort in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh on Saturday. The County Kildare trainer was delighted with the performance of his inexperienced colt, who took minor honours behind Churchill (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Thunder Snow (Ire) (Helmet {Aus}) on what was only his third start.
“We were delighted,” said Halford. “It was a very good run from him, bearing in mind it was only his third run. The ground had gone on him a bit and it took him a while to find his feet on it, but it was a very good run and the two horses in front of him are very good horses with proven Group 1 form. He's taken it really well. We'll leave it a few days and I'll talk to the owners. We hadn't looked far beyond Saturday. He'll get further no problem, he'll go 10 furlongs.”
Stablemate Rehana (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) will drop back in trip after her run in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas on Sunday. Fifth past the post, she was demoted to sixth after hampering Bean Feasa (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) after a couple of furlongs. Rehana had shown smart form at seven furlongs, beating Rhododendron (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) for her maiden success at The Curragh last summer and winning the G3 Athasi S. at Naas this spring.
“The ground was against her, there was no pace and she didn't settle,” Halford continued. “It just wasn't to be on the day. Nothing went right for her, from ground to the pace of the race, but she's come out of it well and we'll probably drop her back in trip now and take it from there. We've nothing in mind at the moment. We were hoping she'd get the mile and we entered her in the [G1] Coronation S. but she won't run over a mile again.”
