Rachael Blackmore and Donagh Meyler travel on Aug. 26 to take part in the 2017 Australia versus Ireland Jockey Challenge Down Under, announced Horse Racing Ireland. The remainder of the Irish Team is composed of Martin Kelly and Shane Jackson, who are both based in Australia. This is the 31st consecutive year an Irish team has been invited to take part in the challenge, and after the 41 contests so far, Ireland has won 25 times, with Australia taking 15. There was one draw. The contest begins at Murray Bridge on Aug. 30, followed by Irish Day at Morphettville Racecourse on Sept. 2.
“We have a strong team heading over this year to join Martin and Shane in taking on the Australians and I'm confident that we can win,” said Irish Team Manager Sean Lynch, as the Irish triumphed in the 2016 edition. “It is a great experience for the jockeys who travel over and we receive the very best of Australian hospitality every year.”
