Ivan Allan Dies

Ivan Allan, who found fame as both the owner of the 1984 St Leger hero Commanche Run (GB) and as multiple champion trainer in Malaysia and Singapore, has died aged 68 after a long illness. Born in Singapore, he trained in that country and in Hong Kong with unprecedented success for 39 years and was a champion of the globalization of racing. His horses owned internationally included the aforementioned Commanche Run, who also captured the G1 Benson & Hedges Gold Cup and the G1 Phoenix Champion S. in 1985, the eventual Leger winner and Gold Cup hero Classic Cliche (Ire), and fellow sire Citidancer (Ire), trained by Henry Cecil to win twice at Group Three level and finish placed in the 1989 G1 Phoenix Champion S. and 1990 G1 Prix d'Ispahan. He had retired at the end of the 2003-04 season.
