Jameka in Work, Career Uncertain

Jameka (Aus) (Myboycharlie {Ire}), a three-time winner at the highest level, is back in work following a bout of life-threatening travel sickness reported Racing.com. The 2016/2017 champion stayer's last race was a 6 1/2-length romp in the G1 BMW H.E. Tancred S. on Mar. 25, but in the ensuing eight months, she has been nursed back to health and has spent the last two weeks at the Pakenham pre-training property of Aaron Purcell.

“As you know, she spent five months in intensive care where she had to have constant supervision,” owner Col McKenna remarked to Racing.com about the 2016 G1 Caulfield Cup heroine. “She came through that and once she came off medication, she spent anothe seven to eight weeks in the paddock. She became the old Jameka again, fresh and fractious in the paddock, and that's just her. So we thought it was time to put her back in work again, but she's only at the early stages. She is just doing light work at this stage.”

Added McKenna, “She was too late to head to the breeding barn this season because she was still too sick, so we will try and get her back to the races now. She won't race this autumn, but we'll see how she goes, if she doesn't get up, she will head to the breeding barn next season.”

Shy Talk (Aus) (Shamus Award {Aus}), Jameka's half-sister, participated in a jumpout at Sandown on Tuesday, which impressed the Purcell team and her dam, Mine Game (Aus) (General Nediym {Aus}), foaled a full-brother to the G1 Crown Oaks heroine this season McKenna confirmed.
