Jennies Jewel (Ire) (Flemensfirth), hero of last years Ascot S. at Royal Ascot has been retired from racing. The 10-year-old was one of the most popular, durable and versatile racemares this decade and her victory over subsequent G3 Geelong Cup winner Qewy (Ire) (Street Cry {Ire}) at Ascot last June capped a 50 race career that saw her also register wins over hurdles and fences. Having won five times over jumps including a G3 chase at Clonmel in 2014, Jennies Jewel was a relatively late recruit to flat racing and she registered the first of her three wins on the level in a Qualifed Riders race at Galway in 2015. Kildare trainer Jarlath Fahey produced her in fine shape for Royal Ascot and on her favoured soft ground she made all the running in the marathon event under Ronan Whelan to fend off all challengers to win by a neck. Paying tribute to his stable star Fahey said, “She was a great mare for me, she was so tough and consistent. I'm just delighted that she has retired in one piece.”
