This year's renewal of the Chengdu Dubai International Cup on Apr. 2 at the Jinma Lake Racecourse in the Wenjiang District of Chengdu, China, will feature for the first time an international jockeys' challenge.
Two of the five races on the card will be run as jockeys' challenge races, pitting five local Chinese riders against five international riders. The Chinese riders are currently training in Dubai with trainers Ismael Mohammed and Erwan Charpy. One of those jockeys, Ma Liankai, said, “It is very impressive to be [in Dubai]. The day starts very early at 3 a.m., and the facilities are excellent. The trainers and jockeys here are very professional and there is so much for us to learn. We are keen to showcase the best of our Chinese competitive spirit to the people of Dubai and the world, and we hope we can do that at the Chengdu Dubai International Cup.”
