Keeneland has been selected to market a sealed-bid auction of the 20-percent minority interest in Horse of the Year Curlin (Smart Strike). On Sept. 25, Boone County (Ky) Circuit Court Judge Roger Crittended issued an order allowing Matthew L. Garretson, the court-appointed Receiver for Shirley Cunningham and William Gallion's Midnight Cry Stable, to offer the 20-percent interest they own in Curlin via a sealed-bid process. Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stable owns an 80-percent interest in the colt. “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a significant interest in an extraordinary racehorse and an exciting stallion prospect,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales. “Curlin is arguably one of the greatest horses of the modern era.” The deadline for submitting bids is 3 p.m. EST Nov. 5, 2008.
