By a 4-1 margin, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission's Race Day Medication Committee has approved new regulations that would ban the use of Lasix within 24 hours of a horse competing. The rule change now goes before the full Committee later today. As written, the rules would eliminate raceday Lasix for 2-year-olds on Jan. 1, 2013, for 3-year-olds and under, plus 4-year-olds racing against 3-year-olds and for all stakes on Jan. 1, 2014, and for all horses in 2015. The committee said they would examine the effects of the new rules on Kentucky racing no later than Sept. 1, 2013.
