Lane's End Farm announced Tuesday that leading sire Kingmambo (Mr. Prospector–Miesque, by Nureyev) has been pensioned from stud duties. The 20-year-old stallion had stood at the Kentucky nursery since entering stud in 1994. “He's one of the great stallions of all time,” said Will Farish. “He has sired classic horses, sprinters, and milers.” A winner of three Group 1 races for the Niarchos family, the bay has been represented by 21 Grade/Group 1 winners to date, including champions Lemon Drop Kid and Russian Rhythm. In recent years, he had suffered from an arthritic condition in his neck.
