Kingman's Redistricting Too Tough For Rivals in the United Nations

A few hours after Segesta (Ghostzapper) provided trainer Chad Brown with record ninth victory in the GIII WinStar Matchmaker Stakes, Klaravich Stables' Redistricting (GB) (Kingman {GB}) gave the conditioner a sixth victory in the GII United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park, allowing him to equal the record held by the legendary MacKenzie Miller.

Sent off the 13-10 favorite to build upon a facile five-length success in the Listed Monmouth Stakes over nine furlongs on June 14, the 140,000gns Tattersalls October yearling was beaten for speed in this 11-furlong affair and was settled in third position through the opening exchanges as Major Dude (Bolt d'Oro) lobbed them along in advance of Limited Liability (Kitten's Joy). Well-rated in the middle furlongs by Flavien Prat, Redistricting continued to ride the rails, saving his best for a finish as Major Dude took the field into the final quarter-mile.

Pulled out into the two path approaching the final furlong, Redistricting kicked on very nicely and had a 1 1/2-length margin over Grand Sonata (Medaglia d'Oro), who completed the exacta for the second year in a row after being nosed out last year. Major Dude held for third. Starting Over (Liam's Map) was injured on the final turn and was vanned off the track by ambulance.

The complexion of the UN was altered in a material way when defending champion Get Smokin (Get Stormy) was forced to be withdrawn owing to the strangles-related quarantine of the barn at Saratoga in which he was stabled prior to vanning down to Monmouth Saturday morning. Having made all the running in the Monmouth Stakes, Redistricting was a candidate to lead, but Prat elected to call on Plan B.

“I was going to go but I felt like Major Dude was committed to going so I sat right behind him,” the Frenchman said. “Good horses give you a good punch and that's what he gave me when I got through. I always felt like I was traveling well and had a lot of horse under me. After that it would be whoever got the best punch and he did today.”

Winner of two of his first three starts at three in 2023, Redistricting was pulled up and out of that year's GI Hollywood Derby and went missing for over 10 months. Runner-up as the favorite in the GIII Knickerbocker Stakes and GII Seabiscuit Handicap at the back end of 2024, the bay was sixth in the GII Muniz Memorial Stakes Mar. 22 and to stablemate Spirit of St Louis in the GI Turf Classic May 3 before his demolition of the Monmouth Stakes five weeks back.

Pedigree Notes:

Redistricting is the 58th worldwide GSW for Juddmonte Farms' outstanding Kingman and the 78th GSW out of a daughter of the late Montjeu.

Redistricting is out of a full-sister to globetrotting St Nicholas Abbey (Ire), whose six top-level conquests include back-to-back wins in the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom, the history-making 2011 GI Breeders' Cup Turf and the 2013 G1 Dubai Sheema Classic; and a half to MGSW & GISP Grammarian (Definite Article {GB}).

From the deeper female family of GI Canadian International Stakes hero Ballingarry (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and Group 1 winners Aristotle (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and Starborough (GB) (Soviet Star), Redistricting is the final foal from his dam, who sadly passed away in 2020.
