Eleven-year-old gelding Kingsgate Native (Ire) (Mujadil–Native Force {Ire}, by Indian Ridge {GB}), a dual Group 1-winning sprinter, has been retired from racing. He will take up a new role at the British Racing School as a mount for jockeys in training, and will also be at Newmarket's Palace House Stables at certain times of the year to greet the public.
Kingsgate Native won the G1 Nunthorpe S. as a 2-year-old against elders in 2007 and the following year's G1 Golden Jubilee S. at Royal Ascot, and he retired to Cheveley Park Stud at the end of that season. He returned to training under Cheveley's ownership, however, when fertility problems were discovered. Racing initially for trainer Sir Michael Stoute and later for Robert Cowell, Kingsgate Native added two more group races to his CV. He won each season he was with Cowell, and as recently as August when he took a conditions race at Nottingham. He retires with eight wins from 60 starts and earnings of £851,420.
Cheveley Park Stud Managing Director Chris Richardson said, “Kingsgate Native's love for all things competitive and entertaining has always been in evidence, ever since he was first acquired by David and Patricia Thompson nine years ago. He proved a challenge with regard to his breeding future, sadly, however he has been such a star in every other way. We are very grateful to the British Racing School for offering to look after him in his retirement; a wonderful facility which we know he will thoroughly enjoy and where he will be fully appreciated. As all those who follow him know, Kingsgate Native has never been one for complete retirement.”
