Kim and Kevin Nish's KMN Racing will sponsor a Saturday fundraiser at Los Alamitos, with proceeds to be earmarked for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys' Fund (PDJF).
The Nishs, who campaigned 2014 GII Los Alamitos Derby hero Shared Belief (Candy Ride {Arg}) in partnership, will offer a signed print of a painting by artist John Rowe depicting Shared Belief's victory over California Chrome in the GII San Antonio S. via a silent auction. The canvas prints of the original paintings — which were commissioned by Kim and Kevin Nish for themselves and partner Jim Rome, the longtime radio and television personality–are signed by Rome, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, who rode Shared Belief to six of his wins, including the San Antonio. The auction will take place on the Vessels Club level of the grandstand and will close following Saturday's sixth race, with an approximate post time of 4:30 p.m. PT.
Shared Belief, the champion juvenile colt of 2013, won the GI TVG Pacific Classic as a 3-year-old in 2014 and went on to win 10 of his 12 career starts for earnings of $2,932,200. Shared Belief died following a bout of colic last Dec. 3.
