Kondo Strikes for ᆬ180 million Deep Impact Colt at JRHA Sale

Riichi Kondo, long a force at the Japan Racing Horse Association select sale, outbid frequent rival Takaya Shimakawa to acquire a bay colt by Deep Impact (Jpn) out of American GII winner Shes All Eltish (Eltish) for ᆬ180 million (about $1,764,706) duringᅠthe yearling session on July 8 that was as hot as the steamy temperatures in Hokkaido. Kondo owns the colt's three-year-oldᅠfull brother, Admire Oja (Jpn), who has won twice, but said he believes the yearling is a superior individual. “The price is more than I thought it would be, but I really, really wanted him,” Kondo said. The colt was consigned by Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm.
