Leading Australian sprinter Lady of Camelot (Written Tycoon) has been ruled out of a potential appearance at Royal Ascot after being injured by a stingray during a beach swim on Tuesday morning.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Lady of Camelot was not yet a confirmed runner at Royal Ascot, with her connections waiting to see how she performed in Saturday's G1 Doomben 10,000 before making a decision on whether or not to travel.
However, that call has now been taken out of their hands, with all plans on hold for the daughter of Written Tycoon after Tuesday's freak incident at a Brisbane beach.
“She has been transported to a specialist veterinary hospital where she remains under close observation,” read a statement released later on Tuesday by owners Go Bloodstock Australia.
“While the immediate focus is on her recovery and well-being, the decision has been made to end her Brisbane Winter Carnival and international campaigns effective immediately.
“A decision regarding her future will be made in due course. Given her elite pedigree and Group 1 success, she remains a highly valuable prospect.”
Lady of Camelot, who was entered in both the G1 King Charles III Stakes and G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, enjoyed her finest hour in 2024 when winning the G1 Golden Slipper. She has finished placed at the top level on five other occasions and is the winner of just shy of A$6 million in prize-money.
