Unbeaten colts winning this old “Washington Singer” always get the pulse racing and Boitron was no exception as he added his name to an honor roll which includes the likes of Rodrigo de Triano, Lammtarra and Haafhd (GB). Left behind at the start on his six-furlong debut here July 12, the bay still managed to win with comfort and Gerard Augustin-Normand stepped in to secure a share of the latest potential star by his beloved Le Havre. While he had defied a penalty in a Doncaster novice contest over this trip Aug. 4, he had been workmanlike but the addition of a tongue-tie for his sternest test failed to put off his supporters. Tracking Good Fortune's honest early pace travelling comfortably for Silvestre de Sousa, he strode past that rival and to the front with over two furlongs remaining and it was plain sailing from there as Dutch Treat worked hard to get competitive.
Richard Hannon was making no secret of his regard for Boitron afterwards. “He is a very nice horse. The first time he won here, I didn't think he would win like he did. It is the way he moves that makes him a very good horse. He won that lovely and Silvestre said he gave him a good feel. He got a bit anxious in the gates today which I was a bit surprised at. He doesn't pull and just does his thing. He is very economical and that is what sets him apart from the others. The [G1 Prix Jean-Luc] Lagardere [at ParisLongchamp Oct. 7] has got to be an option and the [G1] Dewhurst [at Newmarket Oct. 13]. He has got a lot of speed and seven might be his optimum trip now. You have got to work back from the Guineas next year.”
Boitron's dam is the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest third and G3 Prix du Palais-Royal runner-up Belliflore, who also has a yearling colt by Rajsaman (Fr) named Beaufour (Fr). The family includes the G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte runner-up Bashaayeash (Ire) (Fairy King) and the G1 Futurity S.-winning sire Al Hareb (El Gran Senor) as well as the G3 Prix de Conde and G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte winner Dr. Somerville (Chief's Crown).
