Legatissimo On Track For Oaks

The Coolmore partners’ Legatissimo (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) remains on track for the June 5 G1 Epsom Oaks after pleasing trainer David Wachman in a work Saturday.

“She worked this morning and went well,” Wachman said. “The Oaks is the plan at the moment, and we’re taking it day-by-day. She’s a big filly and will only get stronger.”

Legatissimo, winner of the G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket May 3, is one of 14 remaining in the Oaks. She could be joined the Coolmore-connected and Aidan O’Brien-trained Found (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Diamondsandrubies (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), Together Forever (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), Wedding Vow (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Qualify (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}).

With Ryan Moore committed to Legatissimo for the Oaks, the mount of Listed Fillies’ Trial S. winner Crystal Zvezda (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) is vacant, and jockey Richard Hughes is hoping it is his after partnering the Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly in a work Saturday.

“If I receive the call I am ready to ride her,” the champion rider said. “She gave me a lovely feeling [Saturday] and really moved well. She was very impressive at Newbury, but she may not be quite as streetwise as some of the others as she has not really been seen in a battle, so that is a bit of an unknown. It would be great to pick up a ride like this in the Oaks, which has been a lucky race for me.”
