Lighting The Way

Sunday's G3 Flame of Tara EBF S. at The Curragh should provide some early pointers to next year's middle-distance Classics, with His Highness The Aga Khan's Eziyra (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) taking centre stage. Having beaten the subsequent G2 Debutante S. runner-up Hydrangea (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) over seven furlongs at the Galway festival last time July 26, the homebred from the family of the G1 Gold Cup winner Enzeli (Ire) (Kahyasi {Ire}) and Estimate (Ire) (Monsun {Ger}) will be expected to be in the thick of the action here. Aidan O'Brien saddles a duo headed by Giant's Causeway's half-sister Butterflies (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who scored over this trip at Gowran Park last time July 23, while John Oxx puts forward Sunderland Holding Inc's Sea of Grace (Ire) (Born To Sea {Ire}) who beat Eziyra over an extended seven furlongs at Tipperary July 9. “We had intended to run her in the Debutante last week, but she just had a very minor setback which would have prevented her from running to 100 per cent,” her trainer explained. “We've left her in the Moyglare, the group ones close early so they are always speculative entries but she has always shown us from the word go that she's a smart filly.”
