Paul Jacobs's Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}) will line up for Saturday's G1 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock, with his Henry Candy-trained stablemate and defending winner Twilight Son (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) ruled out on account of the quicker going.
“Limato will run, but Twilight Son will not,” Candy confirmed.
“I'm expecting just good ground.”
Limato, the winner of the G1 Darley July Cup July 9, was last seen finishing second to Mecca's Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) in the G1 Nunthorpe S. Aug. 19. Candy had previously withdrawn the 4-year-old gelding from Sprint Cup consideration over concerns that he would not recover from that effort in time, but the conditioner last week had a change of heart. Godfrey Wilson and Cheveley Park Stud's Twilight Son won Royal Ascot's G1 Diamond Jubilee S. on good-to-soft going but was last seen struggling in 14th over good-to-firm ground in the July Cup.
The Sprint Cup has drawn a contentious field of 17 which also includes G1 Commonwealth Cup victress and July Cup third Quiet Reflection (GB) (Showcasing {GB}); consistent Group 1 competitor Magical Memory (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}); and reliable veterans Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) and Gordon Lord Byron (Ire) (Byron {GB}).
