Limato's Nunthorpe Hinges On Work

G1 Darley July Cup winner Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire})'s participation in next Friday's G1 Nunthorpe S. at York will hinge on how he performs in a Friday work, trainer Henry Candy told Racing UK. The 4-year-old gelding would need to be supplemented for the Ebor meeting's sprint feature.

“[Owner Paul] Jacobs is going to see him work on Friday morning and if he works OK and the weather forecast is right, then he will supplement him for £30,000 for the Nunthorpe,” Candy said. “That's a fairly bold thing to do because the difference between a six-furlong race at Newmarket and a five-furlong race at York is pretty amazing.”

Limato has won over seven-furlongs, and Candy has said that he would be keen to try his charge over a mile again. Limato finished fourth in his lone try over that trip in the G1 Lockinge S. May 14.

“If he didn't go to York, he would go to Goodwood for the Celebration Mile,” Candy said. “Even though he's four years old, we're still learning a lot about him and we've got plenty of options.”
