Last year's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Line of Duty (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who was set to line up for a second straight year at that meeting in the GI Mile next weekend, was injured on Friday morning and ultimately euthanized.
“Line Of Duty was a brave horse who has travelled the world over,” said trainer Charlie Appleby. “As well as his brilliant win at the Breeders' Cup, he has performed at the highest level throughout his career and will be sorely missed at Moulton Paddocks.”
Line of Duty, a 400,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 yearling, had won the G3 Prix de Conde prior to his Breeders' Cup trip last year. He had not won since that day at Churchill Downs but was third in his last three outings in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois, the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp and the G2 Prix Dollar.
Line of Duty was out of Jacqueline Quest (Ire) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}), who crossed the line first in the G1 1000 Guineas but was disqualified to second. Jacqueline Quest's yearling colt, a full-brother to Line of Duty, will follow his brother into the Godolphin programme, having been bought by Sheikh Mohammed for 1.1-million gns at Tattersalls October earlier this month.
