William Buick had missed out on a future Classic prospect at Newmarket on Saturday, but his Newbury visit ultimately paid off as Words Of Truth (Lope De Vega) captured Saturday's feature G2 Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes run in honour of Geoff Lewis. Coming off wins at Ascot and Newmarket, Godolphin's 7-2 shot looked well-beaten heading to the final furlong as the impressive debut winner Into The Sky (Starman) cut loose but stayed on best to collar that rival close home and prevail by a length.
“He's gone from strength to strength and that was a tough performance from him on that ground,” Buick said. “The horse who finished second won well on debut and I think is an exciting horse as well, so I think it was an up-to-scratch renewal and he was very professional. He ticks a lot of boxes and should get seven, you would imagine.”
Coming here, Into The Sky was the buzz horse after his wide-margin Newbury bow and while he weakened late to throw it away, trainer Jim Boyle was taking only positives. “We are utterly delighted with him, if a bit gutted, because he's a big, raw weak horse still,” he said. “He was a bit green and lonely in front and lugged left a bit.”
“To do that on his second start was something a little bit special,” he added. “I think the winner will prove a decent horse and they pulled a long way clear. I won't run him again this season, as he's a big frame–he's next year's horse and what he has done this year is phenomenal. We'll speak to all the owners and come up with a plan, but you might have to be thinking of training him for something like the Greenham.”
“He showed so much speed, but at home we always thought he would be a seven-furlong to a mile horse and we'll put him away, let him strengthen up and maybe have an eye on the Greenham and see where we go from there.”
Pedigree Notes
Words Of Truth's dam Beyond Reason (Australia), who was the winner of the G2 Prix du Calvados and G3 Prix Six Perfections at two, has already produced a smart juvenile in the stable's ill-fated G2 Superlative Stakes winner and G1 Dewhurst Stakes third Ancient Truth (Dubawi). The second dam is the GIII Gallorette Handicap winner No Explaining (Azamour), while the family also includes the GII American Handicap winner and GI Eddie Read Handicap runner-up Bayamo (Valanour). Beyond Reason's filly foal is by Space Blues.
