Lord Of The Sky (Aus) (Danerich {Aus}), winner of last month's G3 Bletchingly S. and an intended runner in Saturday's season-opening Group 1, the Memsie S., could be seen at the Breeders' Cup in November after trainer Robbie Laing told Racing.com connections had received an offer to run the 6-year-old entire in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita Nov. 4. Lord Of The Sky's owners had previously turned down an invitation to the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye at Chantilly Oct. 2.
“Probably the favourite of all the overseas ramblings is a chap very interested in sponsoring him to run on Breeders' Cup day, and I'd say we'd be 50/50 about going,” Laing told Racing.com, noting that a trip to California would mean passing up rich opportunities during the Melbourne Cup carnival. Lord Of The Sky finished fifth in the Aug. 13 G2 PB Lawrence S. over 1400 metres, and will be reunited on Saturday with jockey Damien Oliver, under whom he won the Bletchingly.
“He's had the one run at the 1400 metres this time in, which will certainly have him that little bit tougher, and most of the field are stayers on the way back,” Laing said. “The ones that have had a run or two, they are going to be the hardest to beat. As far as fitness is concerned, he's 100%. I won't get him any better than what he'll be on Saturday.”
