Lumiere Possible For Hong Kong Trip

Lumiere | Racing Post

Lumiere (Ire) (Shamardal) has been ruled out of the Breeders' Cup, but the 3-year-old filly could still have a late-season target in the form of the G1 Longines Hong Kong Mile. The winner of last year's G1 Cheveley Park S., the Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum colourbearer has had a season of mixed fortunes, including a last in the G1 1000 Guineas prior to a six-length win in Listed Sir Henry Cecil S., and the grey put in a respectable effort last out when second in the seven-furlong G2 Dubai 100 Challenge S. Oct. 7.

Charlie Johnston, son of and assistant to trainer Mark Johnston, said, “Lumiere is not going to America, but we have entered her in the Hong Kong Mile and that is in the back of our minds at the moment. America would come a bit too soon for her. We will just see how she is, as that meeting is not until December. If she is fit, well and healthy then it is a definite possibility. A mile on quick ground on a fairly sharp track should suit her perfectly.”
