Trainer Mark Johnston earlier this week revealed he was pondering a pair of options for last year's G1 Cheveley Park S. winner Lumiere (GB) (Shamardal), and the conditioner confirmed on Saturday the grey would skip Tuesday's G2 Lennox S. at Glorious Goodwood in favour of the G1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville next Sunday.
Lumiere was described by Johnston as one of his best-ever juveniles after winning the Cheveley Park, but was a head-scratching last of 16 next-out in the G1 1000 Guineas May 1. She bounced back to win the Listed Sir Henry Cecil S. when last seen July 7, and Johnston said he hopes that run indicates she is back to her old self.
“I am hoping that based on her last run she is back to her best form and a Group 1 race against fillies is the most suitable race for her,” he said.
