Malibu Moon Colt No 'Secret' at Woodbine

Malibu Moon | Joy Gilbert

7th-WO, C$74,280, Msw, 4-28, 3yo, 7f (AWT), 1:23.80, ft.
MALIBU SECRET (c, 3, Malibu Moon–Ain't No Tellin', by Dynaformer), making his first start since finishing second to subsequent GSP Channel Maker (English Channel) in the restricted Vandal S. over the local turf course last Aug. 14, proved far too classy for a group of open maidens Friday afternoon at Woodbine. Away fairly, the Sam-Son homebred settled in about midfield down the backstretch while racing three and four deep. Patiently handled on the turn, he got a wake-up call from Eurico da Silva off the home corner, took command while hopping onto his incorrect lead with a furlong to travel and came away to score by a relatively easy 2 3/4-length margin as the prohibitive 3-5 chalk. The winner's second dam, Wonder Where S. winner Misty Mission (Miswaki) is the dam of seven winners from eight to make the races, including Robert S. Evans's multiple Sovereign Award winner Irish Mission (Giant's Causeway), winner of the 2012 Breeders' S. against the boys in addition to a trio of Grade III events south of the border. Third dam Hangin On a Star (Vice Regent) was herself a winner of the Breeders' S. in 1987 following a runner-up effort in the Prince of Wales S. Ain't No Tellin' missed to Giant's Causeway in 2015 and 2016 and produced a colt by Awesome Again this past Feb. 26. Lifetime Record: SP, 2-1-1-0, $55,284.
