EASTPORT (c, 3, Malibu Moon–Resort, by Pleasant Colony) ran on promisingly to be third behind GII Xpressbet Fountain of Youth S. competitor Lookin for Eight (Lookin At Lucky) in a strong special weight on GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational day Jan. 28, and was off at just over 2-1 with some hype behind him in this second start. The homebred was hung a bit wide in the early going and seemingly spinning his wheels while shuffled back down the backside as favored Blind Ambition (Tapit) controlled things up front through fractions of :24.36 and :48.78. Maneuvered to the inside turning for home, he took advantage of Blind Ambition coming wide into the lane, and squeezed up the fence to prevail by a length over persistent 19-1 longshot Donwell (Divine Park), who edged Blind Ambition by a nose for second. The winner is a half to Sightseeing (Pulpit), GSW & GISP, $508,401; and Sea Island (Pulpit), GISP, $341,847–both of whom campaigned for trainer Shug McGaughey carrying the colors of the Phipps Stable. GI Coaching Club American Oaks S. runner-up Resort produced a Orb filly in 2015 named Sightseeing Sis and a Malibu Moon colt in 2016. She was most recently bred back to Malibu Moon. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $26,640. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
