Materiality Works Toward Belmont
Alto Racing’s ‘TDN Rising Star’ Materiality (Afleet Alex), winner of the GI Besilu Stables Florida Derby and GI Kentucky Derby sixth-place finisher, worked Saturday in preparation for a possible next start in the GI Belmont S. Materiality, who was under consideration for a start in Saturday’s GI Xpressbet.com Preakness S., worked a half-mile in :49.03 (5/24) at Belmont Park Saturday instead.
“With those kinds of decisions you just never know, but with the downpour and everything [at the Preakness], I was happy we were safely at home and got a good work into him,” said trainer Todd Pletcher. “He went well, 49 [seconds] with a good gallop out; we were very happy with it.”
Pletcher also plans on sending stablemates Carpe Diem (Giant’s Causeway) and GII Peter Pan S. winner Madefromlucky (Lookin At Lucky) in the Belmont.
