May Sale Closes Cheltenham Season

The sales season at Cheltenham drew to a close on Thursday with the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham May Sale, which saw a pair of 4-year-old geldings top trade at £130,000 apiece. Kerry Lee struck early in the session for Storm Control (Ire) (September Storm {Ger}) (lot 12), a 20-length point-to-point winner on Apr. 29. Aiden Murphy later matched the top price when securing twice-placed pointer Rio Quinto (Fr) (Loup Breton {Ire}) (lot 53). Both lots were consigned by Monbeg Stables.

Upon conclusion of trade the aggregate stood at £2,281,000, with an average of £49,587 and a median of £41,500. The clearance rate was 82%, with seven horses sold for six figures.
