It was a good Saturday afteroon for trainer Shug McGaughey and owner Stuart Janney, who were
represented by a pair of graded stakes winners in the span of about an hour. In New York, Hunting (Coronado's Quest) rallied from near the back of the pack to run down favored Utopia (Jpn) (Forty Niner) en route to a 9-1 upset in the $108,500 GIII Stuvesant H. at Aqueduct. While that result was a bit of a surprise, the victory by Criminologist (Maria's Mon) in the $164,550 GIII Cardinal H. at Churchill Downs was much more expected. Trapped wide throughout, the grey filly, favored at 3-2, made eyecatching progress on the turn and held off Argentina (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) for her fourth consecutive victory. Criminologist is co-owned by the Phipps Stables.
