Hannah Smith's Southwind Stables might not be a household name, but the Florida-based operation made its presence felt at the opening session of OBS April after securing the auction's early pacesetter, a filly by Medaglia d'Oro out of SW Bashful Charmer (Capote), for $400,000. The filly was consigned by Niall Brennan Stables as hip 160. A half-sister to SW Saturday's Child (Storm Cat), the bay was acquired for $50,000 at last year's Keeneland September auction by K.A.B. Stable.
