Hallie Belle (3, f, Medaglia d'Oro-Charity Belle, by Empire Maker) sat the perfect trip and held on late to grab her first stakes victory in the Pago Hop S. Saturday at Fair Grounds. After breaking her maiden on her third try at Keeneland Oct. 21, she answered right back with a victory against winners locally on Nov. 24.
The 7-2 shot sat a perfect stalking trip right behind the dueling pacesetters through moderate fractions of :24.18 and :48.11. The bay ranged alongside the leaders at the quarter pole while traveling three wide. Hallie Belle was two lengths clear inside the final furlong before having to hold off a charge up the rail Into Summer (Into Mischief) for the neck score.
Hallie Belle is the first stakes winner out of Charity Belle, who is a half to MG1SP-Per Spicer Boy (Lemon Drop Kid). She also has a weanling filly by City Zip.
