Melbourne Cup Goal for Commissioned

Commissioned (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}), a winner of Royal Ascot's Queen Alexandra S., is targeting the 3200-metre G1 Melbourne Cup Nov. 1, according to connections. Purchased for £65,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Sale out of Godolphin chief executive and racing manager John Ferguson's Bloomfields dispersal by Nick Bradley in April, the Gordon Elliott trainee will not line up in Saturday's Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.

“When I went to the sale, he was the horse I wanted to buy,” commented Bradley. “I paid a bit more than I wanted to for him, but it's been a few years since I've been as excited about a horse as I was about him. Saturday was obviously a great day and hopefully there's a lot to look forward to.”

Bradley continued, “We had him in the [Northumberland] Plate [June 25], but Gordon just wanted to give him 10 days on the easy list. The [G2] Goodwood Cup [July 28] is a possibility, or we could go to York for either the Ebor or the [G2] Lonsdale Cup [Aug. 19], but the Melbourne Cup is Plan A. He won't be going back over hurdles. He doesn't look like a hurdler to me.”
