Royal Testament (Midshipman) was a debut sixth to next-out G2 Queen Mary Stakes third Lennilu (Leinster) in the Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies at Gulfstream May 10 before treating a field of Monnmouth maidens to a 3 3/4-length beating back on July 27.
Taking on her male counterparts in this return to stakes competition, Royal Testament bounced well from gate five and cut out the running from Red Lad (American Pharoah) through an opening quarter in :22.05. Holding that one at bay turning for home, Royal Testament opened up on her rivals entering the final furlong and maintained a healthy cushion to the line. The debuting and rail-drawn Gypsy Art (Munnings) finished well for second ahead of favored Rogue Legend (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}), last seen finishing in a share of third in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
The 82nd worldwide stakes winner for her sire, Royal Testament hails from the extended female family of Canadian Horse of the Year Pink Lloyd (Old Forester). After not producing a foal in either of the last two seasons, True Testament was covered this year by Golden Pal (Uncle Mo), whose outstanding dam Lady Shipman is also a daughter of the Darley inmate.
