Star 3-year-old filly Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who collected her seventh Group 1 in the Queen Elizabeth II S. Oct. 15, is likely to stay in training next year, according to trainer Aidan O'Brien.
“I think that's the plan, I think that's what the lads are thinking of at the moment,” said O'Brien of the dual Classic winner. “Nothing is written in stone, but she would be one to look forward to.”
O'Brien indicated the dual Classic-placed and G2 Great Voltigeur S. winner Idaho (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) would also remain at Ballydoyle. The bay has had some poor fortune in the second half of the season, having unseated rider Seamie Heffernan in the stretch of the G1 St Leger and having finished fifth last-out in the GI Canadian International.
“It didn't really work in Canada,” O'Brien said. “We're looking forward to him next year. We think he's something to look forward to as a 4-year-old.”
Derby favourite US Army Ranger (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) will also stay in training after encouraging O'Brien with his eighth in the G1 Champion S. The trainer told At The Races, “He will stay in training, we rushed him a little bit for the Derby. He had a break and none of his races really worked, but we were very happy with him on his last run. He didn't get the run of the race and we felt he would have been right there. We think he's going to be a 4-year-old to look forward to as well.”
