Miss Sky Warrior, heroine of the GIII Tempted S. Nov. 5, made it back-to-back graded successes at Aqueduct with a frontrunning score here. Fourth after pressing the pace on debut behind subsequent GI Frizette S. heroine Yellow Agate (Gemologist) Sept. 11 at Belmont, the homebred romped by seven lengths next out Oct. 15 at Parx and scored a tenacious victory going a mile as the favorite in her stakes debut most recently.
Let go at 5-1 while trying two turns for the first time here, the dark bay was sent to the front and dictated terms through a strong opening quarter of :23.65. She was allowed to slow down the pace from there though, getting a half in :48.82 and three-quarters in a pokey 1:14.72. Arriving at the top of the stretch under confident handling, Miss Sky Warrior dug in down the lane to repel the bid of erratic favorite Jamyson 'n Ginger for the victory.
“Two turns was key for her as opposed to the one-turn mile last time, where she had a right to get tired,” trainer Kelly Breen said. “After this, we're going to give her some R&R and hope to have her back at Gulfstream Park in February.”
Breen continued, “She's a game filly. If I have a thought in the back of my head of trying to get her to the [GI] Kentucky Oaks, I'll start mapping it out. It would be great to go with a horse that's legit.”
Miss Sky Warrior, a third-generation homebred, has a yearling half-brother named Double Sky (Sky Mesa). Her dam was bred back to Paynter this spring.
