The complexion of the Tremont changed just before the start when the favored filly Lady Stardust (Union Rags) became fractious in the gate and was ultimately scratched. Silver Mission, the second choice in the remaining field of four, proved the major beneficiary, as the New York-bred hit the ground running, set a solid pace of :22.99 and :45.89 and widened down the lane to score comfortably over favored Hey Mike. He becomes the first black-type winner for his New York-based freshman sire (by Unbridled's Song) and took his record to two-for-two in the Tremont, having graduated by 3/4 of a length as the long odds-on favorite in a 4 1/2-furlong Aqueduct maiden Apr. 21. “We were a little concerned with the way the track seemed to be playing,” winning conditioner Todd Pletcher. “[We] know it's not a long way to the turns. so you're not running into the headwind quite as much. These races, everybody's kind of done the same thing. Most of them are wire-to-wire, so you sort out who's the quickest. He caught a great start, Johnny [Velazquez] was super impressed with the way he broke. It was his race to have from there.” Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
