Dual Grade I winner Mondialiste (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}–Occupandiste {Ire}, by Kaldoun {Fr}) has been retired to his owners Geoff and Sandra Turnbull's Elwick Stud in the north of England, Racing Post reported. A winner at the highest level in North America, Mondialiste captured the 2015 GI Ricoh Woodbine Mile in Canada and returned in 2016 to salute in the GI Arlington Million XXXIV S. for trainer David O'Meara. Also successful in York's G3 Strensall S. and the Listed Pomfret S. during a 31-race career, the 7-year-old retires with earnings of $1,830,660. He was also placed in the 2015 GI Breeders' Cup Mile in the wake of Tepin (Bernstein) and in two editions of the G2 York S.
Bred by Wertheimer & Frere in Ireland and campaigned by them for his first eight starts, Mondialiste was third in the G1 Prix Jean Prat in June of 2013 in those famous blue and white colours and was purchased for €190,000 out of the Arqana July Mixed Sale just over a year later by Turnbull, who gave the horse to O'Meara.
“Mondialiste is without a doubt one of the bravest horses I've trained,” O'Meara told Racing Post. “He has a big heart and he always really sticks his neck out. He's been a pleasure to train, with a great temperament and a fantastic turn of foot. I'm excited about the prospect of training his progeny.”
By Galileo (Ire), Mondialiste is out of the top-class French highweight and MG1SW Occupandiste (Ire), who saluted in the G1 Prix de la Foret and G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest for the Wertheimers. He is a half-brother to French Group 2 heroine and Classic placed Impressionnante (GB) (Danehill), herself already the dam of French highweight and young sire Intello (Ger) (Galileo {Ire}); French MGSW Only Answer (GB) (Green Desert); and a full to SW & GSP Planetaire (GB), who ran third in the G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte. His third dam is GSW Elle Seule (Exclusive Native), out of blue hen Fall Aspen (Pretense).
“Since opening the stud three years ago we now find ourselves in year six of our business plan,” Turnbull told Racing Post. “The stud continues to develop at a rapid pace and now has stabling capacity for over 100 horses. We're very excited at the prospect of standing Mondialiste, our dual Grade I-winning son of Galileo, at a brand new, purpose-built stallion facility in the north of England. We look forward with great anticipation to Mondialiste's first foals and have 25 mares at Elwick that will all be covered by him to give him the best possible start to his stallion career. We've already received a huge amount of interest from across Britain and Ireland.”
Mondaliste will command a fee of £6,000.
