Monomoy Girl Points for Golden Rod

The undefeated Monomoy Girl (Tapizar) will take her next step down the road towards the 2018 GI Kentucky Oaks in Churchill Downs' GII Golden Rod S. Nov. 25.

“We'll probably breeze her one more time Saturday,” trainer Brad Cox said. “I won't do too much with her in this work. The way she breezed last week was something special [five furlongs in 1:00.60 on Nov. 11]. Hopefully she can continue to excel as she's shown in her training.”

A debut winner on turf at Indiana Sept. 5, Monomoy Girl followed suit with a first-level allowance victory over the Churchill lawn Sept. 28. She made a successful switch to the dirt next out, romping by 6 1/2 lengths in the Rags to Riches S. at Churchill Oct. 29.

“She's an absolute runner,” Cox said. “It was interesting leading into the [Oct. 29] Rags to Riches S. because she began her career on the turf. We thought if she ran as well on the dirt as she trained she'd do very well. And, after that race, she's looked just as good preparing for the Golden Rod.”
